FeelGooder Asks: What’s Challenged You This Week?

I don’t know about you, but this week’s been a little bit epic in my part of the world. So I thought I’d ask:

What’s challenged you this week?

Actually, I feel like that question should be, “what hasn’t challenged you this week?” For me, it’s all been a challenge!

Forget your troubles...

I have some kind of weird chest infection that laid me up. I had a stack of work to do. I had clients change plans at the last minute. I had what really, truly, seemed to be unintelligible homework to complete for a course I’m taking. It snowed and I had no kindling for the fire. I had to miss appointments. I ran out of vegetables

This week—you guessed it!—my challenge has been to keep things in perspective. How did I do it? Well, I used my tried-and-tested combination of Nacho Cheese Doritos and reading good books (no kidding).

Whenever things got a little overwhelming, I’d eat some Doritos (whoever decided there were 6.5 serves in a 175g pack was crazy), read another chapter from The Death of Bunny Munro (the latest title from my fellow countryman Nick Cave), and take my mind off everything else. Even if I had to do that in a hot bath because I couldn’t light the fire.

Keeping things in perspective can be tough, but this week, I managed it! Doritos: 1, Being overwhelmed 0.

  1. My challenge was taking in news and experiences that I hadn’t expected I’d deal with in my life. Nothing earth-shattering per se, but being put in a position to abandon what I thought my life would look like, see what it really is, embrace it and do what’s best for me and my family. I’ve been practicing my defiant responses as I anticipate people’s (unsolicited) feedback the same way I used to practice my dance moves to Bon Jovi and Janet Jackson albums! In a way I totally still feel like a kid inside 🙂

I made time to go to the gym and destress and I breathed a lot. I think being overwhelmed did get at least a half point though!

  2. My challenge, as every week, is to juggle online business, work, school, and family!

You definately have it all in perspective………”This too shall pass. ” Ruth

  4. Managing my family, my personal, work, my blog, my personal chores, and take care of myself at the same time.

My recipe is to get quiet, sit in my office chair with my feet up, light some incense, and let my mind clear itself of all the clutter.

  5. Mainly my studies, cause I’m in exams!! bff..

But It also challenged me my “new” blog and to do some fitness.

    That’s it I think

    Cheers.

  6. Doritos and a book in a bathtub sounds like the perfect solution to me! 🙂
This week, I’ve also been finding it difficult to balance all I have and all I want to do. And, my kids are home for the summer, so keeping all of us entertained has been a bit of a challenge.

Reading also helps me deal. It relaxes me and calms me down. And, reminding myself that right now is all I have helps me stay more present and positive (most of the time 🙂 ).

  7. Isn’t the answer to all of life’s challenges a delicious salty/ sweet treat and a good book?! Thought this was common knowledge!

  8. For me, the major challenge was to attend my new training session organized to learn .NET C# , managing work, and finding time to keep my blog alive. I am into my 2nd month of my website, havent generated much traffic, struggling hard NOT to flush it down the drain. God help me.

    Hey guys,
Thanks so much for the great comments. Reading them reminded me of another great way to keep the hurdles in perspective: talk to others about the challenges they’re facing. Your comments are a strong reminder that we’re not battling alone. Everyone has stuff they need to balance or juggle.
