FeelGooder Asks: What Are You Grateful for this Week?

There’s a lot of talk on the importance of gratitude these days. So this week, I thought I’d ask:

What are you grateful for?

A Japanese ryokan where I once stayed

Right now, I’m grateful I’m alive. Looking at the various uprisings and disasters facing people all over the world right now, it’s easy to feel fortunate simply for the peace we have.

It’s easy to be thankful that these kinds of tragedies haven’t befallen more of us, and that the challenges I face each day are comparatively minimal. They’re little things, with limited implications. I’m very lucky to have only these challenges to deal with.

What about you? What are you grateful for this week?

I am most grateful for the sources of hope in the world. Whether it’s God, Allah, Twinkies, or a significant other the origins of hope that have people all over the world refuse to succumb to negative attitudes, cloudy days, disasters, death, cruelty and any number of other circumstances…I am thankful for them. Without hope I am lost.

  2. I am thankful for good health, and a healthcare system, that even though it has its issues, was able to take care of my 18 year old daughter this week during a very sick time. Had it been 100 years ago, she may have died yesterday.

    Just how lucky are you?

  3. @LBL Hope your daughter’s alright. My 8-month-old daughter had a severe allergic reaction to baby formula Sunday. I’m grateful that we found the culprit (milk) quickly and were able to get her on an alternative formula. She’s doing fine now, but the idea that you might not be able to feed your own child is pretty awful. Not something we face much in the western world.

  4. I am thankful for all of those who have given, in the blink of a second, to the multitude of disasters that have happened in the last month. Australia, Japan, Shootings in the US. People are reaching out in ways that we have not had to before and I am grateful that social good is becoming the norm, not the exception. To all who have contributed to the global need out there, you deserve a big thank you! Many of the receivers can not show their gratitude, but know that they are!

  5. I am thankful for all the beautiful and little things in my life. Friends and family in good health, and watching my dog running in the sun. Sitting in the sun and reading a good book. The little thing make me so happy!

  6. I am thankful to God that I am better than others in all senses.
