Thanks for the comment Dr. Pete! I have accumulated a stack of business books over the years as well, and I soak up resource lists of other "recommended reading" lists from people I admire. This diet has really required me to be thoughtful about where I'm focusing my time (and money!).

I also tossed out a stack of unread magazines that had been growing since before Christmas and canceled all but one subscription. A huge pile of guilt went out the door with them. :)

It's funny how much more valuable information becomes when you consciously choose it. Last year, I made a commitment to start reading the books I've bought over the last 5 years before buying another pile of new books. There's nothing inherently wrong with owning unread books, but I reached a point where I'd hear about some new business book, buy it, and then move on to the next great idea before I'd even cracked the cover.

It sounds a little silly, but every book that I finish from the shelf now feels liberating. I'm facing something I've put off forever and honoring a commitment to myself. When I'm done, I'll be able to buy a new book and read it right away, not be wracked with guilt over the pile that's unfinished.
